The Sixth Annual
Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged BeerSMThe country's first and largest beer festival dedicated to the art of wood and barrel aging returned to Chicago on November 8, but at a new location accommodating a record crowd. Two sold-out sessions gathered at the beautiful Chicago Journeyman Plumbers' Local Union 130 Stephen M. Bailey Auditorium, with guests able to sample among 113 different beers from 41 breweries representing 14 states.
ICBG members captured the Best-of-Show and Runner Up awards: Three Floyds Brewing took top honors with Behemoth Barleywine, while Lunar Brewing claimed the second spot with Barrel Aged Batch 500 Imperial IPA.
Illinois Craft Brewers Guild members earned 13 category medals along with the top two BOS prizes, an impressive showing. But out-of-state breweries also performed admirably, as the medal table included 1st places by Court Avenue Brewing Company (Des Moines, Iowa), Fitger's Brewhouse (Duluth, Minnesota), and New Belgium Brewing Company (Fort Collins, Colorado). In fact, Court Avenue Brewing swept the medals in the Classic Styles category in an impressive festival debut.
